The National Health Commission said that 25 people have died due to the virus, of which 24 have died in central China’s Hubei province and one has died in northern China’s Hebei.
He said that till Thursday, 830 confirmed cases of pneumonia caused by coronavirus have been confirmed.
The Commission said that a total of 1072 suspected cases have been reported in 20 provincial level areas of the country.
On Thursday, China sealed five cities, including Wuhan, taking unprecedented steps to stop the spread of coronaviruses.
Due to increasing congestion on the roads before the Chinese New Year, various modes of movement including trains, trains and planes have been stopped. About two crore people live in these cities.
Chinese authorities on Thursday evening announced a halt to public transport in five cities – Hugang, Ezhou, Zhejiang, Qinjiang and Wuhan – in Hubei Province.
The average age of those who die from this virus is 73 years. The oldest person among the dead was 89 years old, while the youngest was 48 years old.
The Indian embassy said in a press release that Chinese authorities have assured all cooperation including food supplies to Indians living in the province.
There is also cause for concern in India, as around 700 Indian students live in Wuhan and surrounding areas. Most of these students study medicine in Chinese universities.
